About the consensus body
A new balloting procedure, approved in August and September 2009 by the LEED Steering Committee and the USGBC Board of Directors, opens LEED ballots to all regular employees of member organizations, not just primary contacts. As with LEED committee and board elections, each organization will receive one vote, which will be divided proportionally based on the number of employees who cast a ballot.
In order to ensure representation among all types of stakeholders – include building users, producers, and general interest groups – USGBC will now form "consensus bodies" prior to a rating system's ballot period. It is the members of the consensus body who will cast votes during the rating system’s balloting period. Any employee of a USGBC member organization can choose to voluntarily join a consensus body during the "opt-in" phase, which ended Oct. 15 for LEED for Retail.
LEED for Retail: Pilot (Background)
The LEED for Retail pilot recognizes the unique nature of the retail environment and addresses the different types of spaces that retailers need for their distinctive product lines.
USGBC and over 80 Pilot project teams have been collaborating to create two new rating systems: LEED for Retail: New Construction, and LEED for Retail: Commercial Interiors. The pilot project teams have provided real market feedback on how to apply LEED for New Construction and LEED for Commercial Interiors to retail spaces.
LEED for Retail: New Construction Pilot
The LEED for Retail: New Construction pilot gathered market feedback from over 40 green retail pilot projects. The rating system has completed multiple rounds of public comment, and a consensus body made up of USGBC member organization employees is currently being formed to vote during the balloting phase.
