LEED Technical Committee
The LEED Technical Committee is a committee of the LSC charged with assessing and recommending solutions to the LSC for review and approval. Its purpose is to optimize LEED's technical effectiveness and scientific validity across LEED credit categories. The Committee works to enhance the natural environment and human well-being.
Responsibilities
The LEED Technical Committee acts in an oversight capacity to the Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) and other specified technical working groups, and makes recommendations to the LSC. The committee regularly coordinates with other LEED committees to uphold transparency, flexibility, feasibility and technical robustness in LEED development. Specifically, the Technical Committee will:
Discuss and coordinate cross-category matters within LEED.
Review and recommend improved and new LEED credits, prerequisites and Minimum Program Requirements for technical validity and consistency with related requirements.
Establish and maintain a system of performance metrics that assesses LEED's technical rigor, coherency and achievement trends.
Work in coordination with the USGBC Research Committee to identify, oversee, commission and evaluate short-term and long-term research into the technical aspects of green building approaches and technologies, as needed for the purpose of improving LEED.
Regularly review LEED certification statistics and other relevant information to identify areas for improvement and increased stringency.
Coordinate and manage the work of the Technical Advisory Groups.
Coordinate and manage the work and creation of technical working groups.
Advise LSC on technical development priorities for LEED.
Committee Membership
The Technical Committee consists of experts in green building technologies, representatives of the Technical Advisory Groups, and other related experts. The Technical Committee will consist of an odd number, up to 15 voting members, who must be employees of USGBC member organizations in good standing. The committee is structured to include commercial, residential and neighborhood development expertise for specific technical issues within the LEED rating system and across all credit categories.
