LEED for Core & Shell is a green building rating system for designers, builders, developers and new building owners who want to address sustainable design for new core and shell construction. Core and shell covers base building elements such as structure, envelope and the HVAC system. LEED for Core & Shell is designed to be complementary to the LEED for Commercial Interiors rating system, as both rating systems establish green building criteria for developers, owners and tenants.

• Version 2.0 - District and Campus Thermal Energy Treatment (PDF) -- Updated, expanded, and improved guidance (supersedes version 1.0) for LEED projects connected to a district or campus thermal energy system for heating and/or cooling.  Now includes coverage of design and construction programs for both LEED v2.x and LEED 2009.  Projects using LEED 2009 must use version 2.0 of the guidance and cannot use version 1.0.
• Methodology for Modeling Combined Heat & Power for EAp2/c1 (PDF) -- Provides supplemental guidance to Appendix G for modeling on-site CHP systems.
• Alternative Compliance Path for EAp2/c1 (XLS) -- Revised points thresholds based on Owner-influenced energy percentage for LEED 2009 projects.

• Space Type Classification (ZIP) -- This spreadsheet categorizes the spaces from IES Lighting Handbook, 10th Edition (ISBN # 978-0-87995-241-9) for applicability to Indoor Environmental Quality credits. These lists should be used along with the definitions provided in the Reference Guide glossary. Exceptions to these classifications will be accepted on a case-by-case basis for spaces with atypical uses or those in which strategies required for compliance may compromise the function of the space. This is not an exhaustive list. If a space is not listed, project teams should try to find a similar space type and follow that guidance. (11/1/2011)

• Guidelines for Third Party Credentials in LEED (PDF) -- LEED 2009 will now recognize other personnel credentials that serve a similar role as the LEED AP.  The two-part requirement is to ensure that the requirements for recognition of a personnel credential in LEED are clearly understood.  The guidelines are applicable to projects that have not been certified as of January 14, 2011.
