Support Project Haiti

Just over a week ago, the 28,000 of you who joined us in Chicago for Greenbuild 2010 returned to your homes in cities and towns in 114 countries around the world, inspired by the most international Greenbuild yet to set forth on a shared mission of redefining our future.

Now is the time; here is your chance.

At the closing plenary session on Friday, USGBC President Rick Fedrizzi announced a critical new project that promises to redefine the futures of thousands and thousands of children who need it most.

Please join us in supporting Project Haiti to build a LEED-certified orphanage and children's center in Port au Prince.

Nearly one year after the island nation of Haiti was nearly destroyed by a catastrophic earthquake and dozens of deadly aftershocks, the children of Haiti still need our help.

Thousands lost one or both parents, and they desperately need a place to go to find the most basic elements of human survival: food, shelter, healthcare, safety and, most importantly, love. But in a nation as entrenched in poverty as Haiti, these basic elements are often far out of reach.

Together with the Lend Lease Corporation, USGBC has committed to catalyzing the unrivaled passion, expertise and generosity of the green building movement to provide the people of Haiti with both a powerful symbol of hope for the future and a model of sustainable building practices upon which to rebuild their nation. That's the mission of the Haiti Orphanage and Children's Center – to provide for the immediate health and emotional needs of orphaned children and provide a pathway to adoption.
