Green Building Policy Intern

The Green Building Policy Intern will support the U.S. Green Building Council’s policy database by assisting the technical conversion of policy data to new database, ensuring the accuracy of existing data and researching additional green building policies throughout the world. This policy data is a vital resource to USGBC’s advocacy efforts and will help green building councils around the world communicate the market uptake of green buildings. The Green Building Policy Internship experience will impart valuable research skills and knowledge of policy making at all levels of government.

Please note that this is an unpaid position and intern must be eligible to receive academic credit.

After completing the program, the intern will be able to:

  • Demonstrate experience in non-profit workplace and sector
  • Clearly express concepts of sustainability and green building advocacy
  • More fully understand the benefits of green building and operations practices
  • Demonstrate practical experience in structuring research results in a format and style that is accessible to a general audience
  • Synthesize project data, surveys and qualitative data into a cohesive picture of the green building movement

Internship details include

  • Assist in the conversion of policy data to new database
  • Ensure the accuracy of existing policy data
  • Develop materials and resources that communicate successful green building policies
  • Categorize types of green building policies as models for other communities
  • Project manage the collection of global policy data
  • Coordinate with other national green building councils around the world
  • Synthesize and analyze global green building policies
  • Support USGBC’s global policy related coalitions and partnerships

Education & Training Requirements/Preferences

  • Current enrollment in or recent graduation from graduate or undergraduate program of study
  • Major or specialization in Environmental Studies, Politics, Government, Law, Architecture or Engineering highly preferred
  • Knowledge of LEED Green Building Rating System highly preferred

Experience Requirements

  • International policy experience highly preferred
  • Previous work experience in team/office setting preferred

Other Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Experience in Microsoft Office required, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator strongly preferred
  • Experience in Adobe Suite preferred, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Web management and HTML experience highly preferred
  • Database management experience highly preferred
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills and software
