Leadership with LEED
Green building is growing in environments where policies have been adopted that remove barriers to building green and expand the uptake of green building practice. Policymakers play an important role in incubating a green building potential within their community and in rewarding leadership that can spur further comfort with and uptake of green building technologies, materials and methods.
USGBC’s Leadership with LEED campaign promotes public policies that encourage the use of the LEED green building rating system, the world’s most widely used and best respected tool for verifying green building performance. As governments consider offering green building incentives, policymakers should be careful to provide incentives and rewards that reflect the outcomes the policy intends to yield, ensuring that taxpayers get what they pay for.
The Leadership with LEED campaign is a nationally-coordinated effort to connect green building advocates, chapters, companies and building professionals with policymakers to pave the way towards a more sustainable future by accelerating the market’s uptake of LEED. All policy solutions will depend on the specific needs of a community or state, but this campaign provides a helpful starting point for any LEED-based policy effort.
