2013 Leadership in the Private Sector Award: Mike McNally, Skanska USA

Published on 17 Dec 2013 Posted in Community

At the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Philadelphia in November, USGBC recognized those who've shown outstanding dedication to the movement to green our built environment through the annual Leadership Awards.

Mike McNally, president and CEO of Skanska USA, received the 2013 Leadership in the Private Sector Award. In addition to being an ardent supporter of LEED, USGBC and the green building movement, McNally demonstrated extraordinary commitment to healthier indoor environments by withdrawing Skanska USA from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce over the chamber’s support of an industry group intent on undermining progress made in the area of building material transparency.

“We have a culture at Skanska of sustainability, and so building green is very, very important to us,” said McNally. “LEED and the USGBC is a mechanism by which we grow and evaluate ourselves. … That’s why we’re in this business: to build buildings we can be proud of.”
