USGBC Ohio works across the state in communities to further our mission of green buildings for all Ohioans within this generation.  Our members and staff engage in local and state advocacy to advance policies that further that mission and engage with community partners in service projects to ensure that all Ohioans benefit from healthy, high-performance green buildings.

A key goal of USGBC Ohio is to advance local, regional and state policies and programs that promote the benefits of healthy, high-performance buildings for all Ohioans. We work with local governments, regional planning authorities, state agencies and elected officials at all levels of government.

To see an overview of green building in Ohio, check out our state market brief. To see how green building is positively affecting Ohio’s economy and jobs, see the economic impact study by USGBC and Booz Allen Hamilton.

Our past advocacy accomplishments include:

  • 2012 Green Schools Rally: Ohio Green Schools Rally. In 2012, the USGBC Ohio community planned and presented a first-ever educational program and building tour of an exemplary local LEED-certified school. This event brought together a diverse group of green building professionals to help inform school administrators and concerned parents about how Ohio leads the nation in advancing healthy, prosperous and sustainable schools.
  • Senate Concurrent Resolution 25: USGBC Ohio and a diverse group of corporate and organizational partners and concerned citizens worked together to protect Ohio’s nation-leading green schools program. Ohio has more LEED schools than any other state, and our work ensured that this program will continue so that all Ohio students can learn in schools that are healthy and promote learning.

USGBC Ohio strives for the day when all Ohioans live, learn, worship and play in buildings that are healthy, resource-efficient, and cost-effective. Our volunteers work with community organizations, companies and a wide variety of stakeholders across Ohio, including:

  • Green Apple Day of Service: Green Apple Day of Service provides an opportunity to transform all schools into healthy, safe and productive learning environments through local service.
  • ADVANCE: ADVANCE is a framework to increase access to green building resources and expertise for new, underserved and underrepresented audiences to ensure the promise and benefits of green buildings are experienced by all persons.
