ASSA ABLOY Mobile Innovation Fleet showcases sustainable door opening solutions
New door and hardware products that fine tune facility performance are on display in the ASSA ABLOY Innovation Fleet now traveling across North America. The Fleet is comprised of six vehicles equipped with door opening solutions that demonstrate various aspects of doorway functionality. The ASSA ABLOY Mobile Innovation Showroom—the largest of the six vehicles—will anchor the ASSA ABLOY booth at the upcoming Greenbuild show in Philadelphia.
So you’re probably wondering what is green about incorporating a semi into a Greenbuild show booth, right? Well here are some answers!
- The ASSA ABLOY Mobile Innovation Fleet started in 2010 with the goal of reaching prospective customers that would normally connect with us at a trade show. By bringing a traveling display to them, it negates the need for customer travel and the associated carbon impact. The fleet reaches hundreds of customers a year. And although it doesn’t eliminate every customer’s need to attend trade shows, it does enable many to stay home.
- Carbon emissions created by the ASSA ABLOY Mobile Innovation Showroom’s presence at Greenbuild along with those from our overall booth activity, have been 100 percent offset by credits.
- Unlike many traditional trade show booths, the ASSA ABLOY Mobile Innovation Fleet is used again and again. The program is finishing its fourth year and the same vehicles and displays are reused each year with minor modifications.
- The large display enables us to show off the sustainability features of our door opening solutions.
This last point brings up the question: How can doors and hardware contribute to the sustainability features of a LEED building? ASSA ABLOY Mobile Innovation Fleet vehicles include product displays that explain how door opening solutions from ASSA ABLOY help LEED projects with energy and atmosphere, sustainably sourced materials and indoor environmental quality.
Under energy and atmosphere, you’ll see some of the most energy efficient exterior door openings available in the marketplace.
Ever think about the energy impact of access control products on total building energy use? Well, we did and it can be significant! In our display this year we will feature Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and Ecoflex locks.
Sustainably sourced materials are also addressed with displays of products made with recycled content, regional material, FSC certified wood and doors made with rapidly renewable materials like wheatboard.
In addition we feature the Environmental and Health Product Declarations of our products and explain our extender producer responsibility programs now in place for many of our door and hardware manufacturers!
To insure reduction of VOCs, every door and frame in the Mobile Innovation Showroom has also been tested to GREENGUARD Gold standards—a product feature that comes at no additional cost!
The actions and products described above just scratch the surface of the exciting changes ASSA ABLOY is initiating in the door and hardware industry.
