Higher Education Green Schools: An Intern’s Perspective

Published on Posted in Center for Green Schools

After an invaluable six month run with the U.S. Green Building Council as an intern, it was time to publish my final podcast. Though I’d produced podcasts with USGBC before, this was the first time I was able to use my unique position as a University of Florida student. Having spent three months at USGBC’s headquarters in Washington D.C., the time had come to head back to school in Florida and continue the internship via telecommute. Quickly realizing that I had an unparalleled on-the-ground perspective, I made the decision to capitalize on it - the perfect opportunity to turn 800 miles of space into a strength rather than the weakness that it seemed.

Being able to speak one-on-one with major players in UF’s sustainability efforts and ask them any question I could dream up was a treasure. By garnering people like Bahar Armaghani and Anna Prizzia, I was able to hear several perspectives on UF’s history as a green school, its collective actions today, and what the campus has in store for its sustainably-oriented future. What resulted was a distinguished mixture of green flavors, which you can hear about in the podcast.

Although I’m happy to have learned so much inside information, it thrills me even more to be able to share this knowledge and perspective with the world. Give the podcast a listen and experience one example of how our nation’s universities are getting engaged in the push towards sustainability!
