I love our LEED HQ: Leading tours at USGBC
As a 13-year veteran of USGBC, one of my favorite things to do is lead tours of our amazing LEED Platinum headquarters. You’d think it would get old after all these years, but after leading more that 800 tours, I still love it. Let me tell you what I love most about giving tours of our office:
The people: We have given tours to over 10,000 people since we opened the doors in 2009. Not just folks in the design community, but hundreds of students of all ages, product manufacturers, government officials, lawyers, insurance agents, international delegations—even a couple on their honeymoon!
The lessons: It’s truly gratifying to see the light bulbs go off in people’s heads. The "Eureka" moments are priceless. I feel that I’ve been successful when guests leave here inspired to take action. Believe it or not, I learn something new on every tour, so it’s a win-win for everyone.
The flexibility: We are a growing organization. I’ve watched the team expand from 25 to over 250 people. Our space has been designed to change with our changing needs, and it’s great to have options. Flexible design features and modular offices have allowed us to mix things up and reconfigure as we see fit.
The design: Ken Wilson and the whole project team put so much thought into the details. We have a beautifully serene office with lots of daylight, natural materials and clean air. It’s a pleasure to come to work every day.
We hope you'll come visit us and see it for yourself!
