Our annual Top 10 States and Countries breakdowns show which places are leading the way in LEED-certified space.

Every year, USGBC does a rundown of the top 10 countries (besides the United States) and the top 10 U.S. states leading the way in LEED-certified buildings. It's our way of highlighting the progress these places are making in sustainable building design, construction and transformation.

The infographics that accompany these updates illustrate the the gross square footage (GSF) of LEED-certified space in each locality and the total number of projects certified.

In addition, the states version includes the total population for each state, since we calculate the states' rankings based on GSF of certified space per capita. The Top 10 States rankings include only the calendar year of 2016, whereas the Top 10 Countries are cumulative.
