Meet the USGBC Redwood Empire Market Leadership Advisory Board
USGBC Redwood Empire has received applications for seven open 2016-17 Market Leadership Advisory Board positions, in addition to seven board members continuing their terms in 2016. This slate will be approved by USGBC Redwood Empire members in January 2016.
New USGBC Redwood Empire Market Leadership Advisory Board Members
Andrew Bannister, LEED AP, CEO, Earthtone Construction, Inc.
Andrew began his career in the construction industry in 1976 as an apprentice at Brazier and Sons, a company established in England 200 years prior. After completing the City and Guilds of London apprenticeship, he followed a course that included all aspects of building from fine carpentry and cabinet-making to historic renovations of homes in the United Kingdom. Upon moving to California in 1984, he trained extensively in project management, ultimately managing large commercial projects in the financial district of San Francisco. In 1998, Andrew founded Earthtone Construction and is actively managing the firm, which now has 20 employees. It has established a reputation in the Wine Country community as a high-end builder with a focus on sustainability. Its commitment to sustainable construction, as well as making building an enjoyable process for all involved, has never wavered.
Beth Farley, LEED GA, Architect, Manager Design and Pre-Construction
Beth is passionate about housing and sustainability. She has been designing multi-family and single-family residential projects in the North Bay for more than 15 years. As a managing principal of a million-dollar-plus architecture firm in Santa Rosa, she was part of a team that produced many award-winning multi-family projects, taking them from entitlement to certification of occupancy. Incorporating green building practices and great design into the Healthy Building projects is her top priority as she coordinates the design and engineering teams: creating beautiful, healthy, sustainable communities in which people can live their lives. Beth holds a B.Arch. from Arizona State University and is a licensed architect in the state of California, as well as a LEED Green Associate.
Oren Wool, Executive Director, Sustainable North Bay
Oren is one of the founders of the Sustainable Enterprise Conference and has been producing sustainable events in the North Bay for over 10 years. Recent convenings also include the Sustainable North Bay Youth Summit, the Sonoma County Adaptation Forum, and a Series of One Planet workshops. To hold these activities and address the urgent need to redefine economic success within the means of our one planet, Oren and other community leaders are building an organization called Sustainable North Bay. At Sustainable North Bay, Oren's role is leading an effort to establish a network of key stakeholders dedicated to building ecosystems that encourage regional scale sustainable planning and development. As a consultant in the natural products industry, Oren works with companies and products that help people lead healthy lifestyles.
Will Bakx, Soil Scientist/Owner, Sonoma Compost Company
Will Bakx launched Bennett Valley Farm Compost in 1985, processing various agricultural and fish industry discards. In 1993, he started the Sonoma county-wide yard debris composting program as Sonoma Compost Company (SCC). Will earned a BA in Environmental Studies from Sonoma State University and an MS in Soil Science from U.C. Berkeley. He is the co-founder and a current board member of the California Organic Recycling Council (CORC) and the California Compost Coalition (CCC).
D'Lynda Fischer, Operations Manager, Daily Acts
D'Lynda Fischer spent her youth in Alaska and became an adult in New York City. She holds a masters degree in Urban Planning from the University of Southern California and was a consultant in Los Angeles for 25 years before moving to Sonoma County. She holds a Permaculture Design Certificate, recently completed her Sustainable Practices Certificate from Dominican Universityand is in the 2016 class of the Leadership Institute for Ecology and the Economy. She is currently the Operations Manager for the Petaluma-based sustainability nonprofit Daily Acts.
John Lowry, Former Executive Director of Burbank Housing
John Lowry has served as Burbank Housing's Executive Director since 1998, providing oversight and leadership for both housing development and property management. He joined Burbank as its first project manager in 1984, after working as a carpenter and teacher. His project management focus was the development of Burbank's successful mutual self-help housing program. John's community involvement includes membership on the boards of California Coalition for Rural Housing, Home Builders Association of Northern California and past membership on the board of the Nonprofit Housing Association of Northern California. He holds a general contractors license and BA and MA degrees with majors in economics, politics and history.
Bridget Brewer, LEED AP, Principal, Brewer Studio Architects
Bridget Brewer, principal of Brewer Studio Architects, has recently relocated to Sebastopol in Sonoma County, after many years working in Marin County. She sees the Sonoma landscape and urban environment as the ideal place to integrate her dual careers in landscape and building architecture. She has an extensive background in native plant and wildlife restoration in urban environments, has taught with the Insight Garden Program at San Quentin and received grants to restore neighborhood parks and urban creeks in Oakland and Berkeley. Her building designs take inspiration from the site as well as the local resources. She thinks it is an exciting time to be working in both professions. "More and more, the design of buildings and landscapes are seen as integrated professions. Each with specific skills and practices that go hand in glove to create a world we want to live and thrive in."
Continuing Market Leadership Advisory Board Members
Steven Sheldon, LEED AP, Architect, Builder, Developer, ibisBuilds
Steven Sheldon, LEED AP, has been making a green impact in Sonoma County for the last 30 years. The core principles from which he evolves his sustainable and environmentally sound designs include energy efficiency and conservation of resources, economy of space while creating a sense of spaciousness, utilization of natural light and the seamless integration of buildings with their surrounding landscape. These principles have been applied to projects including schools, office buildings, mixed-use developments and single-family residences. Steven believes that well-designed spaces have the power to inspire our better selves.
Michelle Lavoie, Interior Designer, Integrated Design, Inc.
Michelle is an Interior Designer with a passion for green and sustainable building. She has an extensive art background, with a BA in Art and a BFA in Interior Architecture and Design. She is a green building professional working to make our living and working environments beautiful as well as healthy. She also serves on the board of the Santa Rosa Democratic Club, where she works for environmental causes and social justice.
Michael Jacob, President, Talia Developments
Michael Jacob is the president of Talia Developments, a construction management, general contracting and consulting company based in Sonoma County, California since 1995. It offers a full range of project facilitation and project management services to its clients, from site selection and due diligence through construction management to move-in. Michael welcomes the opportunity to assist clients in building healthy, durable, energy-efficient homes and commercial projects. Michael is a member of the California Straw Building Association, the current chair of the Sebastopol Planning Commission and president of the board at Community Matters. He developed Two Acre Wood, a co-housing community where he lives with his wife and daughter in Sebastopol.
Ryan Johnston, Program Director, Permaculture Skills Center
Ryan grew up in the hills of west Sonoma County, California, where the wild lands, waters and wonders of a big backyard garden were formative influences on his early life. He has a degree in Environmental Studies and Business from the University of Oregon and has completed an Ecological Design Immersion at the Ecosa Institute and a Permaculture Design Course at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center. Ryan was a Senior Programs Coordinator at the Daily Acts Organization for three years, where he led and organized dozens of talks, tours and workshops focused on home-scale sustainability and was a core organizer of the Community Resilience Challenge. He is presently the Program Director at the Permaculture Skills Center, where he leads two vocational training programs, the Ecological Landscaper Immersion and Farm School, which create pathways to careers in regenerative land management. Ryan is also a Project Manger for Permaculture Artisans, one of the most successful design and build permaculture landscape contractors in the nation.
Claudia Cleaver, LEED AP, Principal, Morse & Cleaver Architects
Claudia Cleaver, LEED AP, has been a principal at Morse & Cleaver Architects, designing award-winning green buildings since 1982, and a registered architect since 1980. She has worked on a wide range of building types, including low-cost housing, co-housing villages, sacred buildings, resorts, office and straw bale and rastra homes. Claudia is a LEED AP and a permaculture designer and has studied Feng Shui and Sacred Architecture/Geometry. She is a long-time member of Architect Designer Planners for Social Responsibility and a founding member and past board president of the Redwood Empire Chapter of the USGBC.
Wyvonne Colombo, Principal, Integrated Design, Inc.
Wyvonne Colombo, RHD, BA has been working as an interior design coordinator since 2008 and a dental hygienist since 1994. Born and raised in Santa Rosa, she graduated from Montgomery High School before attending Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill. She graduated with an associate's degree in Small Business Management and Dental Hygiene. Continuing with her education, Wyvonne graduated from Sonoma State University with a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies. While taking a general education art class, Wyvonne met her future partner in life, David. Motivated by the new impact of art in her life, she went on to study Art and Interior Design at Santa Rosa Junior College and has been working with architects, clients, suppliers and contractors to facilitate and create unique, sustainable interiors.
Linda Delair, LEED AP, Events Coordinator, Sunflower Center
Linda Delair, specializes in remodeling, interior design, space planning and facilitating "green" business certifications, Linda has also been a speaker and panelist on "Green Design and Materials" for radio, student career forums, ASID, IIDA, NKBA, NARI, BIG and the General Services Administration. She studied Architecture, Interior Design, Green Building Science and Feng Shui, is a Permaculture Designer, a Happiness Initiative Trainer and a facilitator of the Pachamama Alliance's Awakening The Dreamer Symposium. Linda is the Events Coordinator for The Sunflower Center, where nutritious food, a creative space and education to cultivate community promote ecological stewardship and increase the welfare of all beings. As diverse as these fields may seem, they are bound together by one word: regeneration.
Current USGBC Redwood Empire members in good standing will receive an email to approve this slate as the final step in the selection process.
