Recognizing the Engine of Green Building on Volunteer Appreciation Week
It's Volunteer Appreciation Week at USGBC, when we recognize the wonderful volunteers who have made invaluable contributions to the green building movement.
In 2012 alone, over 530,000 volunteer hours were given across the USGBC community by a diverse group of people who, like you, are dedicated to green buildings and communities for all within a generation.
This includes nearly 280,000 hours of local volunteer service offered by 5,600 volunteers through the USGBC chapter network. It also includes over 500 people engaged nationally as volunteers for GBCI and almost 700 volunteers advancing USGBC’s mission through advocacy campaigns. Green schools advocates contributed over 168,000 hours through our Green Schools Committees, and USGBC Students tallied more than 40,000 volunteer hours.
In total, USGBC volunteers contributed close to $12 million in volunteer time last year.
We would like to extend a special thanks to the volunteers below.
Board of Directors
The USGBC Board of Directors has provided the strategies necessary to LEED-certify 1.5 million square feet of building space each day, engender the world’s largest conference and expo devoted to green building, provide quality educational programs and engage with our chapters. Thank you, USGBC Board of Directors!
Chapter Steering Committee
Dedicated community leaders on the Chapter Steering Committee are working tirelessly to be the collective voice of our 77 chapters and 30,000 members within the USGBC chapter network. They are the front door to USGBC, the soldiers on the frontline of the green building movement. With 280,000 hours volunteered through USGBC chapters, they are a voice to be reckoned with – the movers and shakers getting work done at the local level. Thank you, Chapter Steering Committee!
LEED Steering Committee and Technical Advisory Groups
The LEED Steering Committee and over 100 volunteers who serve on Technical Advisory Groups, including the Market Advisory Committee, Implementation Advisory Committee, Technical Committee, Pilot Credit Library Working Group, Regionalization Working Group and many others, have played a crucial role in the development of LEED v4. They preserve the integrity of LEED and drive its technical evolution through a consensus-based process. Thank you, LEED Steering Committee and Technical Advisory Groups!
Education Steering Committee
Under the guidance of volunteers comprising the Education Steering Committee, USGBC is able to supply the meaningful education needed by our diverse audience of members, LEED users and the broader building industry. Thank you, Education Steering Committee!
Education Events Committee and Working Groups
The EEC and its many working groups establish the foundation for impactful programming at Greenbuild. Our gracious Greenbuild 2012 Host Committee and the many staff and volunteers of the USGBC Northern California Chapter did extensive legwork to create an amazing experience in San Francisco last November. Thank you, Education Events Committee and your working groups!
