USGBC Iowa: Meet Bruce Hamous, Market Leadership Advisory Board Member
The USGBC Iowa Market Leadership Advisory Board (MLAB) members serve as the primary volunteer leadership voice for USGBC in Iowa. The MLAB represents a diverse group of locally based leaders who advise on strategic and tactical activities implemented as part of USGBC’s global work plan. This leadership group contributes to the global success of the USGBC community by working collaboratively within a larger network in order to develop and implement integrative, consistent and effective local work plans in all strategic markets.

What is your position?
What's your most valuable advice in regard to sustainability, green building or LEED in Iowa?
LEED certification is more than just a plaque on the wall. It provides proof that your building is green using an internationally accepted and highly respected benchmark that measures and quantifies sustainable building construction. Design professionals should consider using the LEED rating system as a template for all of their projects and should encourage their clients to seek and achieve LEED certification whenever possible. I urge all design professionals to also strongly consider becoming a LEED AP. This credential proves to your client that you have the knowledge and expertise to deliver energy-efficient and environmentally conscious designs to every project you undertake.
Why did you choose to join the USGBC Iowa Market Leadership Advisory Board?
As a Sustainability Design Consultant and a passionate advocate for green and sustainable building practices, I am always looking for opportunities to connect with Iowans who share my passion. The people serving on the USGBC Iowa MLAB are in a position to promote programs and influence our fellow Iowans on the importance of building green and operating and maintaining our existing buildings in an environmentally sustainable manner.
What 2016 USGBC Iowa initiatives are you most excited about?
Continuing education programs are always of interest to our members. I am also interested in advocacy in all forms, including our dialogue with local, county and state leaders and officials. I am really excited about the opportunity we have to continue our efforts inform our state legislators about the advantages of PACE legislation.
Why do you believe people and businesses should get involved with USGBC Iowa?
I believe that membership in USGBC Iowa provides the best opportunity for citizens, organizations and businesses to join together in a common and united effort to improve the sustainability of the built environment in Iowa. We can accomplish so much more together than we can individually and USGBC Iowa provides us with that opportunity.
