Today kicks off the World Green Building Council’s World Green Building Week, celebrating the efforts of Green Building Councils (GBC) from 98 countries throughout the world, which represent more than 25,000 organizations. From Sept. 16 – 20, 2013, there will be service events taking place in line with this year’s theme: “Greener Buildings, Better Places, Healthier People.”

USGBC is celebrating World Green Building Week by participating in a number of Green Apple Day of Service projects from Sept.16-21. Green Apple Day of Service gives parents, teachers, students, companies, and local organizations the opportunity to transform schools into healthy, safe, and productive learning environments through local service projects.

There are thousands of Green Apple projects taking place this month, and you can join us by volunteering or registering for one of more than 80 Green Apple events taking place this week or on the official Green Apple Day of Service on Sept. 28. To find projects near you (in the United States and around the world), visit

You can also join the GBC community in showing your support:

  1. Share your green building facts, photos, stories and more on social media using the hashtag #wgbw2013
  2. Attend another World Green Building Week event
  3. Connect with your local USGBC chapter to help get an event started in your area.

Great and informative article! I've heard so much about Green Apple Day of Service but I wasn't aware of World Green Building Week.

Wow, Tess - I didnt see anything about this in any other information source - what can/could we have done as Chapetr members perhaps to get the traction this week deserves? . Could we have instigated through our Regional Committees and Chapters to inform all individual members about this"World" green building week? Maybe link this blog spot to yammer? I certainly know about Green Apple day of service, but not about this broader-reach occurance. Actually this is likely too harsh a comment from me - I see the twitter hashtag and will look that up. I think chapters could have pushed out info to a broader community and becasue I haven't seen any news spots, I am caught off guarg a bit.
