Our mission is to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life.
Everything started when a group of environmentally-minded individuals from the El Paso/Las Cruces area first made contact with USGBC on June 23, 2006. Advocates of green building practices in the El Paso/Las Cruces area began informal meetings on August 4, 2006, to discuss formation of a local USGBC Chapter. ¶The group decided to proceed with Chapter formation, and its letter of Intent was submitted to USGBC on October 17, 2006. USGBC’s letter of acceptance was received on May 21, 2007 and the Chihuahuan Desert Organizing Group was formed. ¶On July 9th 2008 the chapter obtained Provisional Statues and received 501c3 statues on March 18, 2009 which followed by receiving Full Chapter Statues in April of 2009. ¶The USGBC Chihuahuan Desert is the youngest and fastest growing chapter in the West Region Council, encompassing two states and also sharing the most dynamic Border Region in the United States. The Chihuahuan Desert Chapter is the leader local organization where people are taking action for a more green, low-carbon and sustainable built environment.
