The Vermont Green Building Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing Vermont's participation in green building and to promoting the environmental, financial, community, and health benefits of green design, construction, and building operation practices. We are builders, designers, developers, policy makers, service providers, and other building industry professionals working together to improve building practices in Vermont.
VGBN was founded in 2002 by a group of individuals interested in advancing green building practices in Vermont, received 501(c)3 designation in early 2005, and became the Vermont Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council in the fall of 2005. USGBC Chapters offer opportunities for individuals to become involved on a local level, to help educate, collaborate, and network in their communities. VGBN maintains links to the national organization through the Upper Northeast Regional Council – a partnership of USGBC chapters from Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New York Upstate. This network of green building leaders offers opportunities to share best practices and resources, but also helps ensure that we are coordinating as a region, and working together to have the most effective impact. Our role as a local green building resource, along with our connections to regional and national networks, makes VGBN a dynamic organization with many opportunities for rewarding involvement. ¶VGBN’s member base includes a wide range of interested and enthusiastic individuals from many different sectors who are committed to transforming the way buildings are designed and built here in Vermont. Our organization runs on the hard work and dedication of our volunteer Board of Directors, Committee Chairs, and individual members. We are organized into four separate committees – Advocacy, Communication, Education, and Outreach - each with their own set of goals and volunteer opportunities. Please check out the committee pages to find how you can utilize your specific skills and passion to help promote green building here in Vermont.
