Emerging Professional Regional Recruitment Chair

The USGBC Emerging Professionals program bolsters the careers of young professionals from a range of disciplines through networking opportunities and hands-on leadership experience. The program equips participants with the tools they need to succeed as leaders of their organizations, their communities and the sustainability movement. It offers a fresh, innovative perspective to USGBC chapters and secures the future of green building by maintaining a pipeline of passionate, competent leaders.

The USGBC seeks 20 volunteer Emerging Professionals Regional Recruitment Chair to help in the continued ascent of the Emerging Professionals (EP) program. USGBC Emerging Professionals Regional Chairs work as integral leaders of the program with a focus on overseeing the development, implementation, management and growth of USGBC Emerging Professional Committees at chapters regionally. Primary responsibilities of this volunteer position include recruiting and training EP leaders and assisting those leaders with the activities and initiatives of their Emerging Professional Committees.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Work with your region’s USGBC Emerging Professionals National Committee Recruitment Chair to design and implement a regional growth plan and recruitment strategies
  • Serve as a liaison between your USGBC Emerging Professionals National Committee Recruitment Chair and 5-7 USGBC Chapter and Branch Emerging Professionals Committees within your region
  • Identify and recruit leaders of current and new USGBC Emerging Professional Committees
  • Train and support USGBC Emerging Professional Committee Chairs and Branch Chairs
  • Develop and deliver targeted tools and resources for the program within your designated chapters
  • Use Chapter communication resources, such as Yammer, to grow community development and engage Emerging Professionals from local committees in regional and nation-wide initiatives
  • Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of two years relevant professional experience working on sustainability initiatives and/or with nonprofit organizations
  • Strong skills in organizing, team leadership and training
  • Excellent communications skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to commit to two year’s work with the program beginning in May 2014.
  • Ability to commit two to five hours per week to the program, including occasional travel (expenses paid) to Washington, D.C, New Orleans, LA, and/or regionally.
  • Ability to attend the Mid-Year Meeting in Detroit, MI, May 19-23, 2014 (expenses paid)
  • Willingness and ability to take on unexpected challenges and tasks
  • Team player with outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Very strong organizational and project management skills
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of USGBC
  • Interest in sustainable design, green building and leadership development
  • It is preferred that the candidates company support USGBC involvement and travel schedule
  • Experience in volunteerism, grassroots initiatives and/or community engagement preferred
  • LEED credential preferred
