Traditionally an understanding of local environments enabled Southerners to build in ways that buffered the harsh climatic conditio ns. Additionally, acknowledgement of the local climate gave communities identities that reflected their unique topography and c ircum stances. The unique eco-system of the low country creates an imperative for storm water volume control. There will be a dis cussion of Beaufort County Storm Water Volume Control Ordinance with a focus on on-lot techniques to help achieve volume control.
Objectives
- Participants will leave with practical information on storm water volume control; a menu of options with a basic description of degree of difficulty and cost levels and the associated LEED points it could receive.
- Participants will explore the sustainable vernacular traditions that naturally respond to a hot, humid climate and the associated LEED points it could receive.
- Participants will be able to describe the components of a closed crawl space, why it is important in a hot, humid climate and the associated LEED points it could receive.
- Participants will learn about the different types of insulation, best practices for building materials for durability and the associated LEED points it could receive.
- Participant will learn how construction debris recycling and reuse can be accomplished in a redevelopment project for LEED points.
