Achieving high-performance, sustainable performance requires understanding a complex web of new energy codes and green standards. After reading this article, readers should be able to achieve the identified learning objectives. This course will be published by ED+C, the official magazine for the LEEDr professional. This course is appropriate for all architectural and building professions. ED+C readers and others, including architects, interior designers, contractors, specifiers, facility managers and building owners are the target audience. No prerequisites are required.
1.) Discuss how U.S. building code and energy code development have affected sustainable design and green building.
2.) Explain the similarities and differences among LEED, IGCC and ASHRAE 189.1.
3.) Describe federal and local programs intended to promote theadoption of "green codes" and energy-efficient building techniques.
