Beyond Code: Designing Energy EfficientCommercial Buildings

Format On Demand: Online
Offered by Energy Center of Wisconsin
Price $49.00
Category Energy and atmosphere

The architecture and building community is responsible for almost half of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions annually and globallythe percentage is even greater. The world is changing and clients expect high performance and greener designs. Energy efficiency i s a key ingredient in high performance buildings and designing beyond code is the price of entry to green design. AIA's new goals are to promote sustainable design to achieve a minimum 50% reduction from the current level of consumption of fossil fuels used to construct and operate new and renovated buildings by the year 2010, and promote further reductions of remaining fossil fuel consu mption by 10% or more in each of the following five years. This course will provide you with the knowledge of the design process, architectural design impacts, minimizing loads, and HVAC and control issues to design a building that achieves the 2010 goals toda

Objectives

  • Recognize the pressures for energy efficient building design
  • Articulate the design process to achieve higher levels of efficiency in buildings
  • Recognize how the various disciplines integrate to contribute to the design of efficient buildings
  • Analyze the relationship between the envelope, loads, and the HVAC system and how they work together to minimize energy usage
  • Discover post-design issues related to high performance, efficient buildings
