The intent of this presentation is to provide audience members with an introduction to approaches and strategies in pursuit of the credit for Construction Activity Pollution Prevention. The pollutants generated by construction activities cause numerous detrimental side effects to the environment, and limiting a projects effect on soil erosion, waterway sedimentation and airborne dust generation will make valuable impacts on our planet. The presenter will guide the audience through initial planning efforts for erosion and sediment control and introduce selection and installation techniques for commonly used best management practices. Successful implementation of these strategies is critical for any project in pursuit of LEED accreditation, as this is a prerequisite credit for award.


1. Understand the role that various project team members can play during erosion control design, permitting, construction and inspection.
2. Identify which regulatory authority has jurisdiction over the project as it pertains to erosion control.
3. Describe primary intent of the LEED prerequisite for Construction Activity Pollution Prevention.
4. Select and incorporate commonly used erosion control best management practices into projects.
5. Differentiate project team member responsibilities during construction and inspection.
6. Become familiar with LEED standard documents and submittal procedures for achieving LEED credit.
