After many years of confusion and inaction, consensus among both consumers and regulators regarding environmental claims is taking shape. Revisions to the Federal Trade Commission#s Green Guides, released earlier this year, were designed to provide marketers with more direction on how to promote the attributes of their products and services. Coupled with the International Organization of Standardization#s (ISO) Standard on Environmental labels and declarations, marketers have the tools to make responsible claims. This educational program, designed specifically for sales and marketing professionals, will provide an overview of these documents and how they apply specifically to building product manufacturers.
Objectives
-Identify what greenwashing is and why it is so pervasive
-Review scope of the FTC Green Guides
-Review scope of the ISO 14021 Standard
-Learn how to avoid common pitfalls related to LEED claims
