This online, on-demand course reviews research completed by Newport Partners, LLC., regarding the energy needs of homes. Architects, planners, builders and contractors will appreciate what the research found.
Bundles or collections of building systems in homes can form the basis of an energy package or "pod." These can be the foundation for homes delivering energy and CO2 emissionssavings that outperform typical new homes in the marketplace. Building energy analysis was used to evaluate the energy and environmental performance of Propane Energy Pod prototype homes at two sizes, across different climate zones. These results were compared with standard homes featuring typical technology packages.
Objectives
- Describe what a home energy pod is, and some general benefits of using this building strategy.
- Describe the methodology used for comparing the energy and environmental performance of "energy pod homes" to "standard homes."
- Describe how the results of the research comparing energy and environmenal performance of "energy pod homes" to "standard homes."
- Describe how energy pods can help homes qualify for national, state or local incentives for energy improvements made to the home.
