A New Approach to Lighting Controls: Low Voltage

Format On Demand: Online
Offered by Hanley Wood, LLC
Category Energy and atmosphere

This online/on demand course will introduce low voltage lighting controls and how they can be paired with LEDs to increase the efficiency and efficacy of lighting design. This program will be appropriate for architects, engineers, lighting designers, building owners and other stakeholders. Learners will watch and listen to a presentation online, much like sitting in a live presentation.

Using low voltage DC current to power and control LEDs creates a super-efficient system that saves more energy than traditional lighting controls. It is more reliable and flexible, and provides a network of sensors that deliver additional value through smart building applications. The unit will discuss occupant benefits such as control of lighting levels as they relate to productivity and comfort. The benefits of including measurement and verification procedures will also be discussed.

Upon completion of the unit, learners will complete a 10 question quiz. Credit is earned if 8 of 10 questions are answered correctly.

1. Describe the current status of LEDs and their performance benefits;
2. Describe how low voltage lighting controls work in conjunction with LEDs;
3. Quantify energy saving opportunities with low voltage lighting;
4. Identify additional value that low voltagelighting systems bring to building owners with building intelligence.
