The Mid-rise Pilot Guideline states that this credit can only be met by installing continuous exhausting fans. This project would like to install exhaust fans with CO monitors as an alternative to meet the intent of the credit. The structured parking deck will contain exhaust fans and carbon monoxide (CO) monitors on each level. When the monitors detect that CO levels reach 35 ppm, the exhaust fans will activate automatically until levels reach the safe and desired levels. The exhaust fans planned for this parking deck are extremely large and are located strategically on all levels of the deck. Running all of these exhaust fans continuously would require a significant amount of electricity and produce excessive noise to the residents.
The use of a carbon monoxide monitor to trigger the ventilation system is not acceptable for earning EQ 10.3 in mid-rise buildings.
If this parking deck is completely or partially open to the outside air, the TASC would consider a CIR if more information is provided on the layout and design of the parking deck.
