Maximize water efficiency within buildings to reduce the burden on municipal water supply and wastewater systems.
Employ strategies that in aggregate use 30% less water than the water use baseline calculated for the building (not including outdoor irrigation for landscaping) after meeting the Energy Policy Act of 2005 fixture performance requirements. Calculations are based on estimated occupant usage and shall include only the following fixtures and fittings (as applicable to the building): water closets, urinals, lavatory faucets, showers, kitchen sinks.
Employ strategies that in aggregate use 30% less water than the water use baseline calculated for commercial equipment performance requirements as listed in the Table below. Calculations are based on estimated occupant usage and shall include only the following fixtures (as applicable to the building): clothes washers, dishwashers, ice machines, food steams, pre-rinse spray values, and combination ovens.
For equipment not addressed by EPACT 2005 or the table below, additional equipment performance baseline requirements may be proposed, provided that documentation supporting the proposed benchmark or industry standard is provided.
