Certified Wood and LEED: Members Who Wish to Vote Must Opt-In by March 24

The third round of public comments regarding proposed changes to the LEED Materials & Resources credits that recognize the use of certified wood products has closed. Employees of USGBC member organizations who want to vote on the proposed changes may now opt in to the consensus body. Members who plan to vote on the credit changes must first opt in to the consensus body.

USGBC’s 2010 Natural Talent Design Competition: Submit Your Team’s Design Today

Design a LEED Platinum home and change a life. USGBC’s Natural Talent Design Competition, presented by Salvation Army’s EnviRenew Initiative, challenges students and emerging professionals to design a small, affordable, green home for elderly occupants in New Orleans. Two teams of students and two teams of emerging professionals will be selected as national finalists, and will travel to New Orleans and Greenbuild 2010 in Chicago.

The LEED® green building certification program is a voluntary, consensus-based national rating system for buildings designed, constructed and operated for improved environmental and human health performance. LEED addresses all building types and emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies in five areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials and resources selection, and indoor environmental quality.

LEED Professional Credentials (LEED AP and Green Associate) recognize professionals who have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building techniques, the LEED green building rating systems, and the certification process. The LEED Professional Credentials program is administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), which was established with the support of USGBC to allow for objective, balanced management of the credential program.
