This seminar will discuss how mature and reliable Thermal Energy Storage technologies can facilitate the fast-evolving integration of renewables into our energy supply.

Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar continue to increase their share of the national electrical power supply. The variable nature of energy production from renewables has made electrical grid stability a critical issue, with Energy Storage identified as a key part of the solution. Find out how mature and reliable Thermal Energy Storage technologies can facilitate the fast-evolving integration of renewables into our energy supply, to the benefit of both building owners and power suppliers.

Objectives

  1. Understand the mismatch in renewable energy production and utility aggregate electrical demand and its impact on the electrical power grid.
  2.  Understand Energy Storage options and their differing characteristics and costs.
  3. Understand both demand-side and supply-side applications of cool TES and their interaction with renewable energy resources.
  4.  Describe and diagram a network that aggregates grid-interactive electric thermal storage (GETS) devices that respond to immediate grid needs and present real-time information to grid managers.
