Sustainability comes to the new San Francisco International Airport Terminal 1 to provide a deep-green long-term efficient facility with improved indoor environmental and air quality, targeted LEED v4 BD+C Gold certification, and leading to much improved passenger travel experience.

For the redevelopment of the $2.4b San Francisco International Airport’s Terminal 1 program, the Airport a Program Management team to develop the sustainability requirements and two Design-Build teams to execute the project. Attendees will learn the process by which the sustainability requirements were created and how the Design-Build team implemented them.


  1. Participants will learn how to incorporate sustainability an Owner’s goals, requirements (including LEED certification) into the Design-Builders Contract Documents
  2. Participants will learn how to propose, evaluate and select energy and water efficiency strategies to support the long-term sustainability goals for a high energy use public facility.
  3. Participants will learn how Design and Construction professionals propose, evaluate and select building systems, materials, products, and furniture to provide improved indoor environments and air quality and meet the LEED v4 Material & Resource and Indoor Environmental Quality pre-requisites and credits and the new CALGreen material requirements.
  4. Participants will learn how to use life cycle assessment and triple bottom line cost benefit analysis to support sustainable design and construction technology/system/product decision making.
