About

In keeping with its guiding principles of Education, Inspiration, and Innovation, the IFC Headquarters became LEED Platinum certified in 2010, achieving 82/110 points (across 7 credit categories: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation and regional priority) under LEED version 3 (v2009). In 2014, the IFC Headquarters earned full recertification at LEED Platinum with 85/110 points.

The IFC HQ did not require significant upgrades to the building for certification. Modest upgrades in water efficiency were made with simple changes in reducing flush and flow rates in water fixtures. The IFC has continuously monitored energy efficiency and sustainable operating practices. The LEED-EB certification required modest adjustments to existing practices, formalizing standard operating practices, and tracking additional performance metrics. The process allowed for fine tuning of sustainable practices and validating performance.
The IFC operations team has reduced electricity use by 9% between FY08 and FY15 by continuously monitoring performance and making operational adjustments. In addition to paying attending to building operations, lighting upgrades continue to be implemented. The tour will focus on discussing three main credit categories and explain how IFC achieved specific credits (water performance measurement, optimize energy performance, IAQ best management practices - indoor air quality management and outdoor air delivery monitoring).

Objectives

  1. Understand how the water performance measurement credit was achieved at IFC HQ in water efficiency category under LEED v3. in 2010
  2. Review steps taken to achieve the optimize energy performance credit at IFC HQ in E&A category under LEED v3. in 2010
  3. Gain insight into how the building achieved the indoor air quality best management practices -indoor air quality management program credit in IEA category under LEED v3. in 2010
  4. Gain insight into how the building achieved the indoor air quality best management practices -outdoor air delivery monitoring credit in IEA category under LEED v3. in 2010
