About

Learn from USGBC's LEED subject matter experts and GBCI reviewers as they explore the key concepts in the Sustainable Sites credit category of the LEED for Design and Construction rating systems.

Specifically, we'll discuss the importance of early planning, correctly setting your LEED project boundary, stormwater runoff calculations, strategies for credit achievement, and more. This session is aimed at LEED APs with a working knowledge of a new construction LEED rating system, looking to improve their understanding of the LEED certification process and how to maximize success.

Objectives

  1. Calculate stormwater runoff volume to ensure systems are managing smaller storm events
  2. Use examples to correctly calculate development density and community connectivity
  3. Identify impact of establishing a correct LEED Project Boundary
  4. Determine appropriate use of shuttles as mechanism for reducing single-use occupancy vehicles
  5. Identify the possible roles of a LEED AP for success with credits related to Project Site Factors

The session was "adequate", but I found myself wanting to see more on-site photos of the points made by the presenters, rather than a series of bland diagrams. The several "warnings" during the session suggest that, over the years, some previous LEED submissions might have been denied critical points due to unfortunate missteps or misunderstandings by submitters. I myself have been on the receiving end of "martinet-like" LEED reviewers's comments, wherein LEED reviewers refused to approve significant LEED credits because a hard-working team misunderstood a LEED requirement.
