After a three-year effort, Penn State University's Smeal College of Business earned a LEED Gold certification under the LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance rating system.

This certification was the first EB project for the university, as well as their first LEED v4 project. It is also the first and only certified v4 project in our 34-county central Pennsylvania region!

This event will feature a comprehensive panel of representatives from the university who will discuss LEED v4, as well as the intricacies of the EB rating system and Penn State's commitment to LEED certification for all new construction and major renovation projects.

Following the discussion, panelist Rachel Prinkey will lead us on a walking tour of several LEED certified buildings on the University Park campus, including the v4 project. We will end our walking tour with some networking at Liberty Craft House, 346 East College Avenue.

Continuing education credits are available for this event:

  • 2.5 GBCI CEs LEED Specific: BD+C, O+M
  • 3 AIA LU|HSW

The panel will be led and moderated by Erik Foley, Director of Sustainability for Smeal College of Business. Other panel participants include:

  • Rachel Prinkey, P.E., Project Manager for the Smeal LEED-EB certification
  • Yumna Kurdi, doctoral student in architectural engineering
  • John Bechtel, Assistant Director of Design & Construction for Penn State's Office of Physical Plant.

Since the majority of our members are located in south central Pennsylvania and to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions for this event, we have setup a carpool signup sheet online. If you are willing to drive, please "Add your car" using this link. If you'd like to join an existing carpool, click "Join." Or, if there are not enough drivers yet, please sign up for the "Waitlist" to be added to a car eventually.
