Lunch & Learn: Codes, Renewable Energy & How it Impacts You

Register for event

Join USGBC Nebraska Flatwater for our next installment of our lunch and learn series on Tuesday, Feb. 21 in Omaha. We'll review past, present and future of renewable energy sources and how they can apply to your next LEED v4 certified building.

The presentation will be led by Don Foster PE, LEED AP, Vice President, Mechanical Engineer, Farris Engineering.

About the seminar — There are many drivers for the use of renewable energy, such as codes, climate and government expectations. We'll look at three LEED credits — Optimizing Energy Performance, Renewable Energy Production and Carbon Offsets — and how they apply to renewable energy.

We'll also explore two case studies (one university library and one community college technical training facility) against available LEED v4 points, related to optimized energy performance, renewable energy production and carbon offsets.

Learning objectives

  • Explain the Optimize Energy Performance Credit in the LEED v4 BD +C rating system and USGBC's stance on geothermal heat pump systems.
  • Explain the Renewable Energy Production Credit in the LEED v4 BD +C rating system and what energy sources are applicable to building design.
  • Explain the Green Power & Carbon Offsets Credit in the LEED v4 BD +C rating system and how that applies to a central heat plant for a facility.

Continuing education credits — Continuing education certificates for GBCI and AIA will be provided following attendance of the event.

Lunch will be provided. We encourage alternative transportation - please consider biking, walking or mass transit. Free parking is available in the gated lot in front of the building.
