How can we reframe the sustainability conversation at the start of a project? Can a client’s mission and established set of values inspire a more fun and educational process to evaluate strategies? What resources exist and what’s trending?

Join USGBC National Capital Region and other thought leaders for a unique program that will rethink the typical eco-charrette/visioning session. During the program, two potential clients -- Lance Davis, US General Services Administration, and Sarah Downey, Carr Workplaces -- will introduce themselves; their mission, culture, project development history, and what they’re hoping to achieve for their next project. Breaking into multi-disciplinary teams, each participant will have the opportunity to develop and share their best “go to” sustainability arguments with other like-minded professionals for a fun-filled night of brainstorming and networking that will end with real-time client feedback.

Learning objectives

  • How beginning in predesign and continuing through the design process, the integrative process can create lasting value and opportunity for a project and team
  • How the integrative process can engage all disciplines to consider impacts related to site, massing and orientation, envelope design, indoor environmental quality, operations, etc.
  • How LEEDv4 places emphasis on the integrative process related to the discovery and implementation of energy and water system strategies.
  • Get to know the relationships between sustainable strategies and rating systems starting with LEED and the LEED crosswalks
