. What would I need to stucy other than the Candidadte Handbook in preparation for the LEED GREEN ASSOCIATE EXAM
Green Building Specialist, LEED AP Homes, LEED for Homes Green Rater, U.S. Green Building Council
Hi Monica, thank you for your interest in taking the LEED Green Associate exam. Since each candidate seeking a LEED Green Associate credential has a unique combination of knowledge and experience, it is difficult to recommend the definitive study materials one would need to pass the exam. Please start with this article (http://www.usgbc.org/node/10075156), as it provides excellent guidance for preparing for your LEED Green Associate credential. As the article states, a great place to start is with the LEED Green Associates Candidate Handbook http://www.usgbc.org/resources/leed-v4-green-associate-candidate-handbook. The references listed in the Handbook are free and available online, with the exception of the LEED Core Concepts Guide (see the Study Bundle hyperlink in article above - it is a very popular resource for people preparing for the LEED Green Associate exam), a resource which most exam candidates find to be very helpful. Since the primary sources for the development of the LEED® Professional Exams are the LEED Rating Systems, a detailed understanding of these are necessary for success. Start by downloading the introductory sections to the reference guide for free here (scroll down to 'download for free' button): http://www.usgbc.org/resources/leed-reference-guide-building-design-and-construction. After these resources have been explored and studied, most candidates seek the structure of study guides (found herehttp://www.usgbc.org/store/products/publications), online or in-person courses (found here http://www.usgbc.org/education-at-usgbc/listing/study) and practice exams to further their understanding of the information. Others may start with a course or study guide and explore the resources in detail after. There are many paths to success for this exam, but I hope this offers a direction for you to start.

LEED AP IS LIFE TIME VALIDITY ?
LEED Specialist, U.S. Green Building Council
We currently have 3 levels of LEED professional credentials. The LEED AP is our legacy credential and applied to credential holders who tested prior to 2010 and did not opt into the LEED AP with Specialty program. Members who have this designation can carry it for life without continuing education or CMP renewal fee requirements. This credential does not qualify for any of the LEED AP credits in our LEED rating systems. Currently, you can obtain the LEED Green Associate and then the LEED AP specialty credential. These are maintained in 2 year CMP periods through continuing education and a CMP renewal fee. They are not lifetime credentials unless you keep up with the requirements. The LEED AP specialty credential does allow you obtain credit on a LEED registered project as long as the credential is the same as the rating system the project is registered in. Having a LEED AP specialty credential shows clients, colleagues and employers that one's knowledge of LEED and green building is current and being actively cultivated and maintained.

Exam centres for LEED AP in India is available?
Membership, Credentialing, and Education Specialist, U.S. Green Building Council
Hello Manikanta, Thank you for your question. If you would like to locate your nearest testing center and view availability: 1) Please visit www.prometric.com/ and enter "GBCI" in the Test Sponsor field. 2) Then, confirm "Green Business Certification Inc.", and click "Locate Test Center". 3) Choose the country that you are looking for from dropdown menu, and click "Next". 4) Then, choose "LEED Green Associate (or the exam you are wishing to take" from the dropdown menu, and click "Next". 5) Enter the city where you want to test, and click "search". When you see the testing center that looks most convenient for you, click "Availability" next to the test center's location. This takes you to a clickable calendar showing the available times for each open day.

What is the difference between LEED AP and IGBC AP
Membership, Credentialing, and Education Specialist, U.S. Green Building Council
Hello Manikanta, Thank you for your question. Both are credentials that promote green and sustainability but each credential will be used in different contexts or on different types of green building projects. For example, if you are working on a LEED certification project, you will want to have the background and knowledge of LEED and therefore would likely look to the LEED AP credentials. According to Indian Green Building Council (https://igbc.in/igbc/redirectHtml.htm?redVal=showIgbcApnosign) the " 'Indian Green Building Council Accredited Professional Examination' (IGBC AP) offered by IGBC is a credential for professionals to participate in green building projects. The examination is not based on any specific rating system. It is designed to test the knowledge of a candidate on green building design and construction. Qualified individuals can be involved in projects registered under the 'IGBC rating programmes' like IGBC Green Homes, IGBC Factory buildings, IGBC Existing Buildings etc., Projects would achieve one credit point under 'Innovation and Design' category if an IGBC AP is part of the project team." I hope that helps!
Hello! Becoming a Green Rater sounds like the perfect career choice for me. In regards to eligibility, does LEED count landlords and property developers as experience with residential construction?
Green Building Specialist, LEED AP Homes, LEED for Homes Green Rater, U.S. Green Building Council
Hi Misty, thank you for your interest in becoming a Green Rater. To qualify as experience in the field of residential construction, the professional background needs to include design and/or actual construction - including interaction with building design, plans, specs and onsite construction sites. A landlord role would not fulfill this; a property developer may, depending on the nature of the experience/role.

Hello. I was a LEED Green Associate but my certificate expired in 2015. I am considering LEED AP for Homes. Would I have to retake the Green Associate test in addition to the Homes AP exam?
LEED Specialist, U.S. Green Building Council
Thank you for your interest in the LEED AP Homes exam. You do need to have an active LEED Green Associate exam in order to qualify to take a LEED Specialty exam. Since yours expire din 2015 you would need to retest for the LEED Green Associate credential first. Please keep in mind that you can do in this in one of two ways - as a combined exam taken on one day or as two separate exams taken on separate days. To register and learn more about the exams please visit this page: http://www.usgbc.org/credentials#ap

HI, The function of the Green Rater is to verify the house, which is the function of the Energy Rater, should also visit the house?
Green Building Specialist, LEED AP Homes, LEED for Homes Green Rater, U.S. Green Building Council
Hi Ignacio, thank you for your question. The Green Rater provides the required on-site verification for LEED for Homes projects and completes the LEED for Homes Workbook, the comprehensive tool that documents fulfillment of LEED Credit Library and prerequisites. The LEED for Homes rating system also requires that a qualified energy rater completes performance testing at the project. In many cases, your Green Rater may also be a qualified energy rater, or HERS Rater, and can provide you with both the required on-site verification and performance testing services. Your Provider and/or Green Rater can help you select a qualified energy rater.

Hi Nancy, thank you for your interest in the Green Rater training. There will be a Green Rater training offered at Greenbuild. The only green rater in our city has announced that she is quitting, and we have about 20 homes coming up that will go through certification. If a member of our office became a rater, would they be able to rate projects that came out of the same architectural office? We would really like to have someone local, as the next closest rater is a 4 hour drive away.

Is the Green Rater Certification applicable only for single-family homes and mid-rise multifamily properties? Do commercial buildings (new construction and O&M) use Green Raters, or is this purely a residential building application? Thanks.

The LEED for Homes Green Rater credential is only applicable to LEED for Homes projects. Thanks for your interest!

Thanks for the response, Jackie. I am resident in Nigeria and I am in the process of planning a start-up consultancy firm to offer green building services and building certification. Does the LEED AP certificate allows me to report a building for certificate or I must be a green rater?
Membership, Credentialing, and Education Specialist, U.S. Green Building Council
Hi Ahmed, That's great news about the consultancy firm you are going to be starting. I encourage you to look at the steps of LEED certification here: http://www.usgbc.org/certification. Green Rater provides the verification process for the certification in BD+C Homes and Multi-family Mid-rise projects.

Hi, The link to the Green Rater Eligibility Qualification Online Form in the Guide to Green Rater Eligibility Qualifications document is broken. Can you please provide guidance on how to access the online form? I can't find it anywhere on the website. Secondly, I am a LEED AP without specialty. Will I be able to meet the educational requirements of 3 and 4 by virtue of this credential? Thanks.
Residential Quality Assurance Manager, U.S. Green Building Council
Adding on to Megan's response. A LEED AP without specialty would not meet eligibility requirements 3. and 4. as the test content did not thoroughly cover the topics of residential green building strategies or LEED for Homes Rating System requirements. There are online resources to assist you in meeting these requirements included in the link Megan provided. Thank you for your interest in the program!
Director of LEED Support, U.S. Green Building Council
Regarding the broken link, I wonder if it was just a temporary glitch? It appears to be working now; try going here directly: http://www.usgbc.org/sites/default/files/GUIDE%20TO%20GREEN%20RATER%20EL... And I'll have something else get back to you on your second question...
Hi there, I'm a LEED AP BD+C working in Dubai. Is there any closer location to me in order to do the 2 Day LEED for Homes training for Green rater? Also do you have a list of international companies who provide the mentorship? Thanks!

We don't currently have any international training scheduled unfortunately. However, US EcoLogic http://www.usgbc.org/organizations/us-eco-logic has international projects in the Middle East.
