Technical Residential Intern
USGBC has an opportunity for a currently-enrolled student to undertake a practical learning experience through an unpaid internship with its LEED team focused on residential green building.
The internship structure is flexible, it can be either full time for 3 months minimum, or part time for 6 months minimum.
The Technical Residential Intern will support USGBC’s LEED for Homes team and focus on research related to national and international residential green building programs. Additionally, this internship will involve developing specific materials and resources that support users and stakeholders of residential LEED programs.
The learning objectives of this internship include:
- Understanding technical and marketing related residential green building issues
- Analyzing the multitude of residential green building programs in the US and abroad
- More fully understanding the process of creating and supporting a market transformation tool
- Developing experience in non-profit workplace and sector
INTERNSHIP DETAILS INCLUDE
- Analyzing various green building rating systems and creating comparative reports
- Researching innovative green building technologies
- Creating specialized resources to help projects understand LEED for Homes credits
- Supporting the development of a home energy label
- Administrative tasks to support the LEED for Homes team
Education & Training Requirements/Preferences
- Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate program of study
- Major or specialization in Building Science, Construction Management, Environmental Studies, Engineering, or Architecture highly preferred
- Knowledge of the LEED building rating system preferred
Experience Requirements
- Previous work experience in team/office setting preferred
- Previous work experience in the construction or architecture industry preferred
Other Required Skills and Qualifications
- Interest in market transformation efforts, green building
- An ability to multitask and operate in a dynamic work environment
- Excellent communication and writing skills
- Experience in Microsoft Office products including Word, Power Point, and Excel
- Commitment to USGBC mission
- Experience in energy modeling preferred
