EA Engineer

USGBC is currently seeking a professional to serve as a technical subject matter specialist who will focus primarily on energy and atmosphere and indoor environmental quality issues within the LEED Green Building Rating Systems. This EA Engineer will function as part of a team under the direction of the SVP of LEED. The specialist will perform their work under the supervision of a P.E.

This position is based in USGBC’s Washington, D.C. headquarters.

Specific responsibilities include

  • Work on Addenda, Credit Interpretation Rulings, and LEED Online forms maintenance related to the Energy and Atmosphere (EA) category within LEED, as well as energy-specific credits within the Indoor Environmental Quality (EQ) category
  • Communicate and coordinate workflow related to LEED technical development with external subject matter experts and volunteer committees
  • Apply technical knowledge to evaluate volunteer and consultant recommendations in terms of LEED appropriateness and applicability
  • Work with a select group of project teams to beta test the EA and energy-related EQ credits in LEED v4
  • Other technical and administrative duties as needed

Education/training

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (mechanical or architectural engineer)
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
  • LEED AP required (within one year of hire)

Experience

  • 1-5 years of experience in designing HVAC systems, energy modeling, and/or commissioning
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE 55, Guideline 0
  • LEED project experience preferred; at minimum familiar with the LEED rating system
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (2007 or later)
  • Ability to work both independently and on teams
