To facilitate the reduction of waste generated by building occupants that is hauled to and disposed of in landfills and incinerators through reduction, reuse, recycling and composting.


Provide an easily-accessible area or areas for the collection and storage of materials for recycling for the entire building in accordance with Section 2.1- (and Appendix) of the 2010 FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities.

Establish a collection system and controlled areas serving the portion of the building affected by the project dedicated to the separation, storage and collection of materials for recycling including, at a minimum: paper, corrugated cardboard, glass, plastics, metals, batteries and mercury-containing products and devices1.
