The City of Dallas is committed to the principle of environmental stewardship and this commitment is demonstrated through its leadership in the area green building policies for both its own buildings and new privately owned construction throughout the city.

The City of Dallas has completed numerous green facilities since adopting the standard in 2003 that all new municipal buildings over 10,000 SF be built to at least LEED Silver certified level, and more are in the stages of design and construction. To date, the City has over 25 buildings in various stages of certification and have Platinum, Gold, and Silver buildings listed on the US Green Building Council LEED Projects & Case Studies Directory. In addition, the City continues to upgrade its many existing buildings with various green features.
In 2008, Dallas became one of the first major cities in the nation to pass comprehensive green building standards for both residential and commercial construction. In September 2012, the City Council adopted Green Building Resolution 12-2428 Ordinance 28813 for Phase II of the green building ordinance. Scheduled for full effectiveness on October 1, 2013, Phase II has incorporated multiple building efficiency systems into the ordinance to ensure that Dallas remains on the leading edge of green building design and use.
