Ms. Austin has recently relocated to Bend Oregon where she hopes to continue her practice. During her career in Sonoma County Ms. Austin served on the Sebastopol City Council and Planning commission as well as the Sonoma County’s Agricultural Preservation & Open Space District. She is a strong believer in proactive civic involvement by architects to help improve their communities. Katherine has lectured nationally on Green Housing and is a member of the USGBC, served on two National AIA Boards and is Past President of the local AIA Redwood Empire Chapter. She is a contributing writer to Green Homebuilder Magazine.
Ms. Austin has designed hundreds of residences throughout Northern California. Her specialty is in affordable housing in both multifamily and subdivision designs as well as more recent mixed use designs that combine residences with commercial uses. She works closely with civil engineers in the site design and layout of the developments to maximize the use of the sites while preserving critical habitats, including heritage trees, vernal pools and endangered species. Ms. Austin also holds a BFA and MFA in Painting from Boston University and brings a painters eye to her designs.
