What is Net Zero? Net Zero is the idea of balancing energy usage by a house with available on-site renewable energy sources. Typically a house uses utility provided natural gas and electric power. Under “net zero” the house would have a one or more sources of electric power such as solar panels, wind turbine, hydro-power or other power source combined with an electric powered heat pump to move heat to or from the ground to provide space heating. To avoid the high cost of storing electricity the house is kept connected to the utility grid where possible.
