Andrew Zumwalt-Hathaway is the Director of Sustainability Consulting Services for Steven Winter Associates, Inc., a firm that has been improving the built environment for more than 40 years. He is also a licensed USGBC LEED® Faculty™ for the US Green Building Council and a Co-Chair on the New York City Urban Green Council’s Green Codes Task Force.

Andy was the first LEED Accredited Professional in New York and the 6th in the United States. He currently manages a team of Architects, Engineers and Environmental Scientists to support projects with services for LEED Program Management, Energy Modeling and Commissioning. With hands-on experience working with LEED since 1999, Andy leads projects through the LEED Process from planning/programming phases through construction administration and operations. He is an excellent resource on energy and water conservation measures, green building materials assessment, and indoor air quality issues.

As a Sustainable Design Consultant, Andy worked on many of the first LEED Projects in New York including the Department of Environmental Conservation Headquarters, The Hearst World Headquarters and the Solaire. He also was the LEED Consultant for the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, the Terminal “A” Development for MassPort in Boston, the Gilman Hall renovation for Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and Myrtle Hall for Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Current projects include a variety of building types for NYU, Cornell, MIT and Duke University.

As a Licensed USGBC Faculty™ for the USGBC, Andy has trained over 5,000 design and construction professionals on the requirements, technologies and processes involved with the LEED Rating Systems. He is a talented speaker with a solid grasp on the technical material he teaches and an ability to convey that material to a diverse audience.

USGBC Faculty are the official instructors of USGBC's instructor-led workshops working with USGBC's education delivery partners. Andy is approved to teach the following instructor-led workshops:

  • LEED 201: Core Concepts and Strategeis
  • Retail 251: Understanding the LEED for Retail Rating Systems
  • Healthcare 251: Understanding the LEED for Healthcare Rating System
