Craig Campbell, the founder of Sustainable Building Co, has been an environmental advocate since 1972. He was in first grade and was introduced to Native American Culture by a local mother that had an interest and knowledge of the Navajo Peoples. Immediately, Craig was captivated by the way of life, the contact with nature and the resourcefulness. These were ideals that were contrary to what he saw in our ever-growing and wasteful world society.
Around that same time a TV ad campaign started that depicted a lone Indian paddling his birch bark canoe down a river, trash floating and an industrial landscape in the backdrop. He pulled his canoe to shore and was next to a highway when a car driving by on the congested freeway threw a bag of trash from the window of the auto. The camera zoomed in on the face of the Indian as a tear rolled down his face.
These two events galvanized a lifelong concern and interest for the environment, rooted in traditional Native American ways and this influence has provided the groundwork for Summit Sustainable Building Co.
