Dan Winters

Mr. Winters is the Senior Fellow - Business Strategy and Finance at the US Green Building Council where he utilizes his background in institutional real estate finance to foster and strengthen relationships with the capital markets.

He is a member USGBC’s technology development team for the Green Building Information Gateway (, a global platform for green building insights and innovation. GBIG refines competitive markets by increasing transparency on key asset attributes and reducing capital market information asymmetry.

Winters helped support USGBC’s efforts with the National Academy of Science's 2013 review of green building rating systems used by the U.S. Department of Defense. The resultant report recommended DoD's continuing their policy of certifying assets to the LEED rating system.

He is contributing author to two ULI textbooks including “Professional Real Estate Development: The ULI Guide to the Business” and “Green Office Buildings: A Practical Guide to Development”. He has written numerous trade journal articles on green building finance and served as special advisor to Building Design & Construction’s white paper “Green Buildings and the Bottom Line”. He was one of the first LEED-accredited financial professionals in the nation.

Mr. Winters has been a keynote speaker and/or panelist at industry events across North America, served as a member of the District of Columbia Mayor’s Green Building Task Force during the successful passage of the DC Green Building Act, and is a current member of the DC Mayor's Green Ribbon Committee.

He earned his Masters in Real Estate Finance and Development from Harvard, his MBA from SMU, and is an alumni of UW-Madison’s real estate program. He is an adjunct professor at University of Maryland's Colvin Institute of Real Estate.
