Daniel J. Carafelli, CBM, C.P.M., A.P.P., currently serves as chief business
officer for the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (Mtech) where he
heads the institute’s expansive Office of Business, Finance, and
Facilities. Dan leads Mtech’s wide-ranging business, information
technology, and property management operations while overseeing a diverse
portfolio of financial and capital assets. A credentialed procurement
professional, he also holds a concurrent academic appointment as a senior
research fellow in the Supply Chain Management Center at the University of
Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. His primary interest is
public sector capital procurement for aviation, transportation, and the built
environment.

Dan’s broad executive experience encompasses all aspects of university
finance, administration, and operations. During his lengthy tenure at
Maryland he has been responsible for campus-wide operations, complex
information technology projects, high-profile web development teams,
extensive capital equipment fleets, and several university business incubator
buildings, biotechnology facilities, and commercial properties. Prior to
joining Mtech, he held leadership positions with the campus Department of
Transportation Services, University Facilities Management, and Maryland Fire
and Rescue Institute.

Dan holds the masters-level Certified Business Manager (CBM) professional
designation from the Association of Professionals in Business Management and
the Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) and Accredited Purchasing
Practitioner (A.P.P.) professional designations from the Institute for Supply
Management. He is a faculty member of the National Institute of Governmental
Purchasing and a professionally certified member of the Institute for Supply
Management, National Procurement Institute, and Airport Purchasing Group. Dan
is a three-time graduate of the University of Maryland University College
with a B.S. in Business and Management, B.S. in Computer Studies, and
Graduate Certificate in Financial Management.
