After 27 years of corporate procurement and planning responsibilities with Canadian Bechtel Engineering, Johnson & Johnson and Ontario Hydro, where David Katz participated in the creating and marketing of new ideas, educating the key players, and motivating the recipients to meet their objectives, including the sustainable development mandate under the direction of Maurice Strong, Chair of Ontario Hydro, David Katz took a voluntary separation to establish Sustainable Resources Management in 1993. The initial project provided financing, marketing and administration services to an energy management controls company, Save Energy Engineering that was providing systems to multi - residential buildings and getting paid from the energy savings.
David also developed the Sustainable Resources Management Consortium with other energy management consultants to work collaboratively on all types of energy related projects. He continues to lead the controls subsidiary renamed, Sustainable Environmental Solutions that now provides a variety of energy and water management technology and software solutions. David Katz leads both businesses that operate independently with different other consultants who are former utility, government and business executives with PhD, MBA, P.Eng, LEED AP, CEM, CMVP designations. These consultants collaborate to find the appropriate knowledge and technology solutions appropriate to the clients’ interests.
Trained in California on Applied Decision Analysis, Expert Systems and the Analytical Hierarchy Process, David provides training and consulting services to executives in the application of these programs. He prepared a number of studies and policy assessments on non-utility generation and waste to energy projects. As a former Purchasing Agent he can provide on line procurement services as a partner in RFQ Strategies.
He continues to provide the Industrial and Building Energy Expertise (IBEX) open learning energy management course after the pilot project with Centennial College and Ontario Power Authority Conservation funding ended.
As a member of the Continental Automated Building Association and Intelligent and Integrated Building Council and co-developer, he can provide the Building Intelligence Quotient rating program to complement the GREEN and Energy rating programs.
As a former electric power and emissions broker at Ontario Hydro, and member of the Environmental Markets Association and trained in CO2 trading he can provide expertise for the upcoming Carbon Trading or tax regimes.
He is also trained as a Business Development expert reviewer for Sustainable Technology Development Canada.
