Eliot Allen is an urban and regional planner focusing on the nexus of community planning and sustainability. Since founding Criterion Planners in 1979, he has become a nationally-recognized leader in the use of information technology to help designers and citizens create places that are measurably more livable and environmentally responsible. Eliot was a charter member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, and is a former chair of the Portland Sustainability Commission. He is a member of the USGBC Location & Planning TAG and USGBC Faculty; a core committee member of the ASLA Sustainable Sites Initiative; and an advisory board member at the Remaking Cities Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. Eliot is a co-recipient of the EPA Climate Protection Award for the Chula Vista CO2 Reduction Plan, and the CNU Charter Award for the Smart Code.

USGBC Faculty are the official instructors of USGBC's instructor-led workshops working with USGBC's education delivery partners. As USGBC Faculty, Eliot is authorized to teach the following instructor-led workshops:

  • LEED 101: Green Building Basics and LEED
  • ND 251: Understanding the LEED for Neighborhood Development Rating System
  • ND 301: Implementing the LEED for Neighborhood Development Rating System
