Emily Lorenz

Emily B. Lorenz, PE, LEED AP BD+C, is a self-employed principal engineer in the Chicago area. She serves as an independent consultant in the areas of green structures and practices, energy efficiency, thermal properties, and moisture mitigation.


Prior to starting her own firm, Ms. Lorenz worked at a multi-disciplinary consulting firm and performed analyses to predict thermal resistance for building components and conducted solar reflectance testing. In the area of sustainability, Ms. Lorenz assisted on LEED™ and other green building projects to provide expertise on environmental impact, energy efficiency, solar reflectance, integrated design, and other areas.

Ms. Lorenz served as Director of Sustainability and Editor-in-chief of the PCI Journal for the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI). She has given over 30 presentations on the topic of sustainability. A licensed engineer in Michigan and Illinois, Lorenz previously worked as the engineering editor of the American Concrete Institute’s (ACI’s) Concrete International magazine, and as a structural engineer for Albert Kahn Associates in Detroit, MI, and Ericksen Roed Associates in St. Paul, MN.
